Student Checking
A checking account can be an excellent learning tool on managing your money. Please keep in mind the following:
- A check/debit card is not a substitute for cash
- Money ultimately comes from you earning it - either from a job or other source of income
- When a check is written, the money gets subtracted from your account
- There are consequences when you overdraw from a checking account (in addition to tracking your spending in your checkbook, you should also build up savings to avoid an overdraft fee - see "Good to Know" below)
If you are under age 18, you will either need a parent on the account, or a job (with a paystub) to open a checking account at Glacier Hills Credit Union. Some of the benefits of our "First Time" Free Student Checking include:
- Free Checks
- No minimum balance
- Free online and mobile account access
- Free Visa Check Card
- Free Overdraft Protection

Good to Know!
It pays to build up your savings. If for some reason you make a mistake and overdraw
from your checking account, free overdraft protection from Glacier Hills Credit Union will cover the withdrawl and save you a hefty fee. How does it work? Basically, we'll transfer the money from savings to checking to cover the amount.
